Your animation projected meters wide on the building facades of Rotterdam South?

Over the past two years, HIJS has put the Afrikaanderwijk neighborhood on the map as a hotspot for street art through the organization of POW! WOW! Rotterdam. Many mural artists were offered the opportunity to paint a mural or space there. And with many technological developments becoming available, we’ve decided to dive into digital arts as well. From December 18 to February 15, the dark winter days set the stage for a bright selection of digital artists.

On five locations surrounding the Afrikaanderplein and on the Santos-building on Katendrecht, a variety of graphic art and animation will be projected. And the great news is; as of right now we’ve opened our open call for artists who want to contribute. So in addition to the artists already selected, there’s a chance your artwork will also be visible ‘on South’!

The goal is to give artists, especially during these cold winter times, an enticing stage to show their work. The coronavirus pandemic has closed many opportunities to artists worldwide, but this offers everyone the chance to be selected and exhibit their work outside in some of the most visible public spaces in Rotterdam South. Fifteen artists will be chosen and added to the selection of artists already made. These include participants like Tuig Oma, Mr. June, Eveline Schram, Rauwkost Collectiveand Xaviera Altena. More artists will soon be announced!

The HIJS Lights artworks will be shown daily from December 18 to February 15, between 16:00 and 23:00h. If you are selected to take part, please note that the animation you wish to exhibit should be finished by December 7. It is not required that your animation is made specifically made for this project. On December 18 the latest update for the Rewriters app will also go live, so you’ll be able to combine checking out murals (in the daylight) and projections (in the dark)! All info will soon be available on hiphopinjesmoel.com.

You can apply as of right now through this form on HIJS.
