From 6 til 13 September 2020, POW! WOW! Rotterdam will return to the Afrikaanderwijk neighborhood to once again provide many colorful murals. Despite the global COVID-19 pandemic, the organization wants to give street art fans what they normally look for when visiting POW! WOW! Rotterdam: beautiful art in the outdoor space. The 2020 line-up will only consist of artists who are currently living in the Netherlands.
“These are crazy and uncertain times. When we were able to welcome ten thousand visitors last year, we couldn’t imagine that the next edition would look completely different due to a pandemic,” says director Dave Vanderheijden. “But we don’t want to leave street art lovers without beautiful new murals this year. We have looked at what is possible within the public safety guidelines of the RIVM and will therefore put street artists to work, just like last year, to create many new murals in the Afrikaanderwijk. ”
In addition to the street art that will appear on the buildings in the Rotterdam South district, the popular 20 VANS 30 CANS exhibition will also return. If you have a bus or small truck, you can turn it into a driving art piece. Registrations for 20 VANS 30 CANS are open as of right now. Be quick, because as in previous years, places and the number of artists are very limited. Both vehicle owners and artists who want to participate can register via the online registration form until June 28.
The organization is also looking for artists for the 55×5 pop-up exhibitions, which are held in two temporarily empty properties. Within this new concept, five artists will work for five days, each equipped with 55 spray cans. Do you think you can realize a unique exhibition during POW! WOW! Rotterdam? Then register via this form. This deadline is also on June 28.
POW! WOW! Rotterdam is again part of the Rotterdam Street Culture Weekend, which will take place from September 11-13 2020. The organization is proud to once again be able to join this event, which is important for the broad development and visibility of the street culture in the city. The mural artists will be working from 6 until 13 september. More information about the program and the line-up of the 2020 edition will follow soon via our website and social media channels.
